The Department of Business Administration of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangalore, conducted a Management Development Programme (MDP) on ‘Revolutionising HR Operations with Face Recognition Technology’ on 06th December 2024. The programme aimed to familiarize participants with the practical applications of face recognition technology in streamlining HR operations, such as attendance management, access control, and employee engagement analytics.
The MDP was inaugurated in the presence of Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash, Director, SJEC who presided over the program, and Mr Jeevan Derick Dsouza, Country Lead HR & Sr. Manager HRBP, EGDK India was the chief guest for the program. Dr. Rio Dsouza, Principal SJEC was the guest of honour. Mr. Shashank G K, CDO of EZ Technologies was a resource person for the program. Dr. Prakash Pinto, Dean, Department of Business Administration welcomed the gathering. Mr. Jeevan Derick Dsouza, Chief Guest in his speech, expressed the need for training and expressed his delight about the institution's growth and its readiness to provide a platform for entrepreneurial growth. The Director, Rev. Fr. Wilfred Prakash D'Souza in his presidential remarks congratulated the organizing team for organising such an innovative programme.
Dr. Rio Dsouza Principal SJEC wished the delegates fruitful learning during the MDP. Dr. Anjali Ganesh convenor of the program proposed the vote of thanks. A brainstorming session was conducted by Mr. Shashank GK in the MBA computer lab to explore how face recognition technology be utilized in the HR operations and Administration. The session aimed to explore the integration of face recognition technology in Human Resources (HR), focusing on its applications, benefits, and challenges. Discussions began with how face recognition streamlines attendance and time tracking, ensuring accuracy and reducing administrative overhead. Its role in enhancing workplace security was emphasized, as it enables robust access control, allowing only authorized personnel into restricted areas. The technology’s application in onboarding and offboarding processes was also explored, showcasing its ability to expedite identity verification and optimize resource management. Furthermore, face recognition was recognized as a tool for employee monitoring and compliance, helping organizations uphold workplace policies without invasive practices.
The workshop also delved into the personalization opportunities offered by this technology, enabling tailored employee experiences that enhance engagement and satisfaction. A key concern raised was data privacy and the ethical implications of using face recognition, stressing the need for transparent policies and strict adherence to regulatory standards to maintain trust. Future trends such as AI integration, edge computing, and innovations in secure data handling were highlighted, demonstrating how these advancements could further revolutionize HR practices. Lastly, the relevance of face recognition in the context of remote work and hybrid workplaces was discussed, particularly for virtual attendance tracking and secure access to digital systems.
The one-day Management Development Program (MDP) was a success, with active participation from 33 professionals from both industry and academia. Participants shared positive feedback, highlighting the session's productivity and its value as a learning experience.
