Two Days' workshop on Business Modelling in Problem Based Learning (PBL)

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and SANJOSH – Teaching Learning Centre (TLC), in association with the Department of Business Administration, St Joseph Engineering College, organised a two-day workshop on Business Modelling in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on 8th and 9th August 2025. The programme was attended by 50 participants, comprising faculty members from various disciplines.

 

The inaugural session began with the Principal delivering a thought-provoking address on Business Models and Design Thinking. The Principal also extended a warm welcome to the resource person, Dr Ambuj Kumar, Director, BMCOE, Viswanikethan. Dr Prakash Pinto, Professor and Dean, Department of Business Administration, presided over the function.

 

On the first day, Dr Ambuj Kumar introduced the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and explained its relevance in PBL pedagogy. The session emphasised how the BMC can be effectively used as a tool to visualise, develop, and refine innovative solutions for real-world problems. Participants then worked in groups to prepare the BMC for their respective problem statements.

 

The second day of the workshop was dedicated to presentations by the participants. Each team presented their BMC, which was reviewed and verified by Dr Ambuj Kumar, who provided valuable feedback for improvement.

 

The workshop was convened by Dr Binu K.G., Head – Strategy, and Dr Pavana Kumar B., Head – IQAC. Mr Ananth Alias Rohith Bhat P and Ms Deepthi Dinesh coordinated the programme, with Ms Deepthi also serving as the compère for the event.

 

The workshop successfully equipped participants with practical skills in business modelling and demonstrated the integration of design thinking principles into problem-based learning. The collaborative environment and expert guidance ensured that the learning outcomes were achieved effectively.
