The Department of Computer Applications, in association with The Catholic Board of Education (CBE) of the Diocese of Mangaluru, organized a seven-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “AI for Teachers” from 1st April to 9th April 2025. The program was designed to empower school teachers of CBE, Mangaluru, with the knowledge and practical skills needed to integrate Artificial Intelligence concepts into the teaching-learning process.
The inaugural ceremony was held on 1st April 2025 at 9:30 AM in Spoorthi Hall. The event was presided over by Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, SJEC. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Rev. Fr Praveen Leo Lasrado, Secretary, CBE, Diocese of Mangaluru and Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal, was the Guest of Honor.
The program began with a welcome address by Dr Hareesh B, Head of the Department of Computer Applications, who warmly greeted the dignitaries and participants and emphasized the importance of AI literacy among educators. This was followed by inspiring addresses from the dignitaries, highlighting the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence in shaping the future of education and the need for teachers to adopt modern pedagogical tools to enhance learning
experiences.
The formal Program was concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr Sunith Kumar T, Convenor of the FDP, who expressed gratitude to the management, dignitaries, resource persons, and participants for their support and contribution to the success of the event. The training sessions were conducted in the MBA Lab, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM each day for around 60 participants. The FDP featured hands-on sessions, demonstrations, and discussions on AI fundamentals, applications in education, and ethical aspects of AI integration. Participants were guided through real-world examples and practical exercises aimed at improving their digital
competence and teaching innovation. The seven-day program provided an excellent platform for knowledge exchange and capacity building among educators. The participants expressed their appreciation for the enriching sessions and acknowledged the department’s efforts in promoting AI literacy among teachers. The FDP concluded with positive feedback and a commitment to applying the acquired knowledge in their respective schools.
