ICSC3-2018

 

SJEC hosted its first Inteational Conference on Smart Computing, Communication and Control (ICSC3-2018) on 11 th and 12 th June 2018. The conference was jointly hosted by the Departments of CSE, ECE, EEE and MCA.

Dr L M Patnaik, Adjunct Professor-IISc and INSA Senior Scientist, graced the inaugural ceremony as Chief Guest. Mr Ramakrishna Bidri, Senior Agile Coach-SWET CoE, Alliance Technology Unit - TCS-Bengaluru was also present on the dais for the event. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director-SJEC, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa, Asst Director-SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal - SJEC, and Conference Conveners, Mr Shreenath Acharya, Asst Professor, Dept of CSE and Mr Gandhimathinathan A, Asst Professor, Dept. of ECE were the other dignitaries on the dais. During the course of the event, the dignitaries’ released the proceedings of the conference.

The Inaugural on the first day was followed by a Keynote Address on Inteet of Things (IoT) by Dr L M Patnaik which provided insight to how IoT can be used as a platform to provide automated solutions to socially relevant problems. The afteoon session saw a workshop on Agile Methodologies and SCRUM anchored by Mr Ramakrishna Bidri.

The conference was livened up on the second day with a talk on “Polyglot Approach to Mode System Engineering” by Dr Peter (Pjotr) Kourzanov, Senior Researcher at NXP Semiconductors, Netherlands. This talk had important implications for attempts to build autonomous vehicles and also to encourage Systems Thinking among the students. Dr Kourzanov was accompanied by Mr Oswald Sunil, Architect at NXP Semiconductors, Netherlands.

All in all, 75 papers were shortlisted for oral presentations at ICSC3-2018 and 66 papers were presented in parallel during the conference, across all tracks.

Track: Communication Networks & Inteet Technologies

Venue: Fr Fred Memorial Hall

There were 13 papers that were presented under this track. The judges for this session were, Dr Shreesha Chokkadi, Professor, Department of Instrumentation & Control Engineering, MIT Manipal and Ms Dayakshini, Associate Professor and Head, Department of ECE, SJEC. The best paper award under this track was awarded to the paper titled "Power and Audio Control using Smart Automation", authored by David John Saldanha, Adlen D'Souza, Kottari Ashwini V, Madhushree T Chavan and A Gandhimathinathan, from the Department of ECE, SJEC.

Track: Intelligent Systems & Knowledge Management (1)

Session: 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM

Venue: Spoorthi Conference Hall

There were 14 papers that were presented under this track. The judges for this session were, Dr Jyothi Shetty, Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte and Dr Sridevi Saralaya, Associate Professor & Head, Department of CSE, SJEC. The best paper award under this track was awarded to the paper titled “'Remote Patient Health Monitoring System” authored by Murali K A, Abdul Raheem, Kaushik B U, Conred Sequeira and Priya S Miranda, from the Department of CSE, SJEC.

Track: Smart Environments

Session: 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM

Venue: Bishop Aloysius Paul Conference Hall

There were 13 papers that were presented under this track. The judges for this session were, Dr Pushparaj Shetty D, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, NITK and Dr Kavitha Mahesh, Associate Professor, Department of CSE, SJEC. The best paper award under this track was awarded to the paper titled “Smart Car” authored by Runa Veigas, Rickson D’Cruz, Shubham Kumar, Ambareesha and Lavina D’Silva, from the Department of CSE, SJEC.

There were 12 papers that were presented under this track. The judges for this session were, Dr Antony P J, Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, AJIET, Mangaluru and Ms Sumangala N, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of MCA, SJEC. The best paper award under this track was awarded to the paper titled “Experimental Characterization of DWT and CS Compression Algorithms for Multi-Resolution ECG Data in WBAN" authored by Rajashekar Kunabeva, Dr Manjunatha P, Kirankumar GH and Komalakumari, from the Department of ISE, GMIT, Davanagere.
