The Department of Mathematics under the SIGMATHS Association conducted a hands-on ' Session on ORIGAMI' for the students of BE on Saturday 13 April 2019 from 2pm to 4pm in the Sophia Chamber, First Floor, Academic Block III. Dr Adelaide Saldanha, Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics, St Agnes College, Mangaluru was the Resource Person. She was assisted by her son Mr Prasad D'Sa who also took up a session on origami. Origami is an art of paper folding using the basic concepts of mathematics. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. These designs begin with a square sheet of paper whose sides may be of different colors, prints or pattes. The principles of origami are also used in stents, packaging and other engineering applications. Students actively took part in the session and prepared various models using mathematical techniques.
