The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a Faculty Development Program on
PLC Programming & Automation on 18 - 19 July 2024 in the Festo Center for Industrial
Automation. Dr Binu K G and Dr Rolvin D’Silva were the coordinators of the FDP.
Dr Shreeeranga Bhat, HOD, Department of Mechanical Engineering welcomed the resource
person and the participants. Dr Binu K G gave a brief insight of the sessions of FDP. Dr Rolvin
D’Silva introduced the resource person and welcomed him.
The FDP intended to strengthen the competency of our Faculty in handling the PLC systems
in the FESTO Center for Industrial Automation. The FDP was delivered by Mr Himanshu
Kumar, Director, Indwell Automation. The FDP was open for all faculty of SJEC and
neighboring Colleges in Mangaluru. The total number of participants were sixteen, which
included faculty from Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and
Electronics & Communication Engineering.
The sessions included understanding of the concept of ladder diagram, usage of Codesys
software, and finally integration of the coded program to the workstation for hands-on session.
The topics covered include:
Introduction to Automation
PLC basics
PLC Programming
HMI Programming: Interfacing with PLC, Screen Development.
The participants took active part in the coding using codesys software. On the final day the
participants had hands on session in the workstation where they coded the examples discussed
and connected it to the workstation.
The valedictory session was held on 19 July 2024 at 4:30 PM. Resource person gave away the
participation certificates. Mrs Vijayalaxmi, Assistant Professor, Dept of ECE and Mr Joysun
D’Souza, Assistant Professor, Dept of EEE gave a brief feedback about the FDP. Dr Rolvin
D’Silva proposed the Vote of thanks.
