A team consisting of Alumni's and a Student of St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor Mangaluru led by Mr Noel Deepak Shiri, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, SJEC had participated in the program titled "Swachhata He Seva" and Workshop and Exhibition on "Plastic Waste Management" organized by Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), a Govement of India Undertaking in the Department of Chemicals, Petrochemicals and Fertilizer. The Workshop was conducted in KASSIA Auditorium in KASSIA Udyog Bhavan, Bengaluru with the support of Kaataka State Polymer Association (KSPA) and Kaataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) on the 2nd October 2019. The program was inaugurated by Honorable Union Minister for Chemicals, Petrochemicals & Fertilizers Shri Sadananda Gowda along with Director General CIPET Dr S.K Nayak, Joint Secretary Mr Kailashnath Jha, Department of Chemicals, Petrochemicals & Fertilizers and KSPA President Mr Vijaya Kumar and KASSIA President Mr R Raju.
The Workshop was attended by more than 200 people represented by Polymer Industries captains, recycling entrepreneurs and supporting technicians along with students of CIPET, Mysore and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) officials. The workshop covered topics of Recycling, Plastic Waste Management, Single Use Packaging products, Entrepreneurship in Recycling. In the same workshop, Mr Noel Deepak Shiri presented a invited guest talk on the topic "Development of Waste Plastic Lumber and Bricks using Commingled (Mixed) Waste Plastics and Single Use Waste Plastics". The Honorable Union Minister Shri Sadananda Gowda and dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the team led by Mr Noel D Shiri and encouraged them after visiting the display stall and wished the team success for their innovation to get into reality by helping the nation in recycling single use products for alteatives to sustainable development. The project collaborator Mr Wolfram Thurm from the German Funding Agency who has supported the Project Work was present in the workshop and the stall and was specially thanked by the Honorable Union Minister for supporting and funding the project.
The teams members participated in this Exhibition are: Mr Noel D Shiri, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering along with the Alumni's Mr Glen Pinto and Ms Vishikha Keshav and a student named Mr Mohammed Sinan along with Mr Wolfram Thurm, Project Collaborator from the German Funding Agency from Bauhaus Universität Weimar, Dresden, Germany.
