MIR Net Zero Summit held on 20th February 2026 at TMA Pai Hall, Mangaluru, which focused on the theme “Vision 2047 – Building India’s Carbon Neutral Future Cities.” The summit served as an important platform bringing together policymakers, academicians, architects, engineers, and sustainability experts to deliberate on strategies for achieving net zero emissions and promoting sustainable development in India. The inaugural session featured institutional greetings and addresses by distinguished dignitaries from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of Karnataka, and international representatives including the Consulate General of Italy, highlighting the need for global collaboration and green investments for India’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The keynote sessions emphasized the shift from energy efficiency alone to a broader cultural model of sustainable living and responsible resource utilization.
The technical sessions and panel discussions covered a wide range of topics including mobilizing global green capital, ESG-driven infrastructure development, and sustainable urban planning. Experts shared insights on carbon-neutral building design, the use of eco-friendly and low-carbon construction materials, renewable energy integration such as solar photovoltaics in building envelopes, smart glass technologies for enhanced energy efficiency, and mass timber engineering as a sustainable alternative to conventional materials. Sessions on digital integration highlighted the role of Building Information Modelling (BIM), interoperability, and lifecycle sustainability in modern construction practices. Discussions also focused on resilient infrastructure, smart maintenance strategies, and sustainable urban regeneration for future cities.
The summit provided valuable exposure to emerging trends, innovative technologies, and policy frameworks required for achieving net zero targets. It emphasized the critical role of civil and environmental engineers in reducing carbon footprint through sustainable construction, efficient resource management, and climate-responsive infrastructure planning.
