The main objective of this visit is to: Give an overview of power generation and high voltage power transmission Enhance their knowledge on safety measures in the plant. Ms Chaitra Shree S,Junior Engineer of Mahatma Gandhi Hydro Power Station Jog welcomed the students. During the visit she explained various sections of the plant. She briefed about the history, operations occurs at various terminals of the plant and provided detailed information about the dam, power generation and transmission. The Power House on the right bank of the Gerusoppa dam consists of four Francis-type turbines coupled to the generating units of 60 MW each. The units are configured to operate at a design head of 47.5 mtrs. An outdoor switchyard is located between the toe of the dam and the power house. Power from the outdoor yard is evacuated through a 220 KV double circuit transmission line connected to the state grid at Talaguppa. The visit has enhanced the students knowledge on power generation, transmission and distribution in the plant. Also, they understood different machinery used in the plant.Overall the visit was educational, informative and the objectives of the visit were achieved. Mr Ajithanjaya Kumar,Mr Subramanya K and Ms Chaithra Shetty Faculty of EEE department coordinated the visit.
