GENESIS – Student Association of the MBA Department organized a Guest Lecture on Career Opportunities in the Insurance Sector, for second year students, on 23 September 2014, in Academic Block III, from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. The Guest Speaker was Mr Hillary D’Souza, specialist in Fellowship Insurance, with ten years’ experience in the insurance sector. The Guest Speaker was introduced by Dr Prakash Pinto, Dean MBA.

Mr Hillary D'Souza started his talk by introducing students to the meaning of Life Insurance and how much Life Insurance a person must have.To help students understand the concept better he played a video titled 'Life in Insurance' . He briefed students about financial planning and its three categories namely - protection, saving, and investment - and explained the term 'Insurance Contracts'. He provided information on types of insurance such as Life Insurance, General Insurance and Health Insurance. Practical examples on awareness before buying the policy, term plan of insurances, reasons and motives of people behind buying an insurance policy etc., were discussed. Different insurance plans like Term Plan, Endowment Plan, ULIP Plan and Pension Plan in addition to risk and retu involved in govement securities, postal deposits, bank deposits, company debt instruments, mutual funds, equity shares, and derivative trading were explained.

Students were given an idea about career opportunities in insurance in various departments such as actuarial, marketing, financial, accounts, public relations, operation, underwriting, personnel, investment and legal. Mr Hillary D’Souza also encouraged students to pursue NCFM certificate courses. He explained the 12 different certifications, and provided information on various levels for undertaking professional and associate examinations in insurance. Students were also given an opportunity to raise their queries and clarify their doubts.

Dr Prakash Pinto, Dr Anjali Ganesh and Ms Chitralekha, faculty from MBA department, were present for the session. Ms Alzin Menezes proposed the vote of thanks.
