DigiHunt, a semi-technical event hosted by IEEE SJEC CSE Chapter was conducted on October 3rd, 2018 at St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangalore. It was conducted on the occasion of IEEE day, and was open to the students of all branches and all semesters. It was a team event; wherein a single team can consist of a maximum of three members. The event received a good response, as 81 teams registered by the deadline. The event began at 1.30 PM in the designated classrooms.

The event consisted of two rounds. The first round was a semi-technical quiz consisting of basic trivia. The 40 highest scoring teams were selected to play the second round. The second round started with a technical crossword puzzle, on completion of which, a website URL would have been given to them. The URL would lead them to a game which consisted of 7 rounds, a few of them being: guessing the output of code, solving a tower of Hanoi problem and riddles of guessing numbers based on clues.

Ms Anvitha, Mr Calvin and Mr Alston of 4th year won 1st place. Mr Rayan Smith Lewis, Mr Shane Misquith and Mr Mohammed Ridhun of 2nd year won 2nd place in this contest. Based on the participants’ feedback, the event was unique and extremely enjoyable; and they hope to partake in similar events in the future.

CodeRunner, a 4 hours online coding contest was organized by the IEEE Computer Society Chapter, SJEC and the Department of Computer Science, SJEC on 5th of October, 2018. It was conducted on the occasion of IEEE day and was open to the students of all branches and all semesters. It was a team event; wherein a single team consisted of a maximum of three members.

There were 31 teams with 80 participants in total. The event began at 9:00 AM in the designated laboratories.

 

The contest was conducted on HackerEarth as the coding platform. The teams were given 4 hours to solve 4 problems with varying difficulties. Participants had to solve these problems by writing efficient code in any programming languages of their choice. The judging criteria included the efficiency of the code and the number of test cases passed. Students were allowed to access the inteet and implement the concepts. To familiarize with the coding platform, the participants were also provided with a mock test one day before the event. Ms Vaishnavi Naik, Mr Pranav Bhat and Mr Nihal Palled of 4th year won 1st place. Ms Fiona Saldanha, Mr Calvin Clint Dsouza and Mr Abhinandan Ghosh of 4th year won 2nd place in this contest. This event helped the students gain insight into Competitive Programming and also enabled them to lea new concepts of programming.
