Industrial visit to 220KV, SRS Kavoor Receiving Station

An industrial visit to the 220KV SRS Kavoor Receiving Station was organized for the 4th semester students by the EEE department on June 7, 2024. The purpose of the visit was to reinforce concepts taught in the transmission and distribution of electrical power course. KPTCL officials Mr. Deepak and Mr. Krishnanad Pai explained the layout of the substation. Students were shown the single-line diagram of the substation and discussed practical methods for locating equipment based on this diagram. They were also provided with the detailed explanations of how Gang Operating Switches, lightning arresters, current transformers, circuit breakers, potential transformers, and other equipment function within the substation. Additionally, students visited the 11 KV substation premises and learned about capacitor banks and their role in distribution. They also visited the SCADA control room and the battery room. 

The industrial visit offered students valuable practical insights into the transmission and distribution of Electrical Power. A total of 60 students of 4th sem EEE participated in the visit.  Dr Sheryl Grace Colaco , Professor, Ms. Shailaja & Ms. Priya, Lab Technicians from the  Dept of EEE accompanied the students.
