The Department of Mechanical Engineering, St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, organized a three-day training program on 24th, 25th, and 27th February 2025 for the students and faculty members of the department.
The program was conducted by Mr. M. Krishnamurthy, Former Senior Director at IMTMA Technology Center, a Master Trainer in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), ASME Certified Senior GDTP, and an Authorized Training Instructor for ASME.
The sessions focused on the fundamentals and advanced concepts of GD&T, with emphasis on industry-relevant standards, interpretation of engineering drawings, functional tolerancing, and practical applications in manufacturing and quality assurance. The resource person enriched the sessions with real-time industrial examples, case studies, and interactive discussions, which helped participants gain clarity on complex GD&T concepts.
Both students and faculty actively participated in the program, making the sessions highly interactive and engaging. The training enhanced the participants’ understanding of GD&T standards and their application in design, inspection, and manufacturing practices, thereby bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industrial requirements.
Program Outcomes
At the end of the program, the participants were able to:
Understand the fundamental principles and advanced concepts of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME standards.
Interpret engineering drawings accurately using GD&T symbols and terminology.
Apply functional tolerancing concepts to improve design intent, manufacturability, and quality control.
Relate GD&T concepts to real-time industrial practices in design, inspection, and manufacturing.
Enhance industry readiness and professional competence among students and faculty members.
The program was well received and proved to be highly beneficial in strengthening technical competence and professional skills among the participants.
