A technical talk was organized by the ECE Students Association, PRODIGI, and IEEE, on 18 October 2014 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, in Fr Fred Memorial Hall, as a part of the Institute Industry Interaction Program. The talk on Latest Trends in Information and Communication was delivered by Mr Vijay S, Senior Project Manager, Kshipra Solutions, Bangalore. The talk was attended by VII and V Semester BE, and I and III Semester M Tech students, of the ECE Department.

Mr Vijay introduced the gathering to the CAMS phenomenon consisting of Cloud, Analytics, Mobile and Social Media Explosion. He began with the Big Data concept which is playing a major role in today's inteet age where data is being dumped and accessed in large volume.

He described how data had evolved from the early 90's where the maximum portable data was only 1.2 Megabytes on a floppy drive to the present when 2 Terabytes of data areportable in a hard disk. He also covered the three factors: Volume, Velocity and Variety and talked about the increase in storage capacities, increase in processing speed, faster availability and analysis of data by technical companies such as Google and e-retail sites such as Flipkart. He linked this to the mobile revolution and social media explosion that have become mediums for collecting and spreading information, and have also become the focal point of work in mode enterprises. The speaker also covered the topic of Cloud Computing - the umbrella term for Inteet based Development and Services – in great detail.

In conclusion, he advised students to explore multiple fields like Finance, Application Development Information and Communication where the industry is growing rapidly and may well make way for more than 1 million jobs per year in India alone. He stated that in the present scenario engineering is all about adapting yourself to the latest technology. The talk ended with a Q&A session which was very interactive.

Prof B V Nityananda, HOD ECE, presented the speaker with a memento and certificate of appreciation. IEEE Department Coordinator Mr Rohan Pinto, Assistant Professor ECE, and PRODIGI Coordinators Ms Chaitra U R and Mr Keith Feandes, Assistant Professors ECE, were present during the talk. Ms Rhea Feandes proposed the vote of thanks.
