In view of Plagiarism Check by VTU for MTech/MBA/MCA Dissertation Reports, in order to inculcate the habit of respecting the academic integrity and discipline, a talk on “Plagiarism Free Report Writing” was organized by the Department of Computer Applications under the banner of TechnoCrats for the students of VI Semester MCA, IV Semester MBA as well as IV Semester MTech on Friday, 7 th April 2017 from 10.00 am to 11.15 am in Fr Fred Memorial Hall of the college.
The resource person for the talk was Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal - SJEC, who handled the session. The talk was intended to cover aspects of Anti Plagiarism regulations applicable to PG Project Thesis and Usage of Plagiarism Checking Tools. During the talk, the Vice Principal stressed the importance of plagiarism free report writing and stressed on the fact that plagiarism is not ethical. In his lecture, he explained the concept of plagiarism, types of plagiarism, 404 errors, re-tweet and the relevance of paraphrasing.
The Vice Principal also presented some of the tips for avoiding plagiarism and urged the students to come up with original work. He highlighted the importance of planning the report, consultation with the guide, taking effective notes, citation of the sources, and referencing. In addition to the above, he also presented the VTU guidelines for submitting the report and the permitted similarity index.
Apart from the MBA, MCA and MTech students, the faculties of MBA, MCA, CSE and ECE departments were also present during the talk. Overall, the session provided useful insights to the students on plagiarism free report writing.
