I.S.T.E SJEC Students Chapter had organized a one day workshop and technical talk on “Rapid Prototyping and 3D Printing Technology” by Mr. Manish Amin (Director) of Global 3D labs Inc., Bangaluru, on the 31 th March 2015 and this talk was held at Bishop Aloysius Paul Conference Hall, Civil Engineering Block from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This workshop was organized for all the interested Engineering students from all the branches of the college.

Mr. Nestor Mario Peris, Student Coordinator, welcomed the gathering and our Principal Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis welcomed Mr. Manish Amin of Global 3D labs Inc., Bangaluru, with a flower, and Dr. Raju K, HOD of Mechanical Engineering Department welcomed Mr. Sunil Patel of 3-Dimentional Solutions, Manipal with a flower and Mr. Noel Deepak Shiri, ISTE SJEC Chapter Chairman welcomed Mr. Khivraj Jangir of 3-Dimentional Solutions, Manipal, with a flower. Then Mr. Noel Deepak Shiri, ISTE SJEC Chapter Chairman and the convener of the program, gave an introduction of the Guest Speakers and introduced to Global 3D Labs, Bangaluru and 3-Dimentional Solutions, Manipal, to the audience. Our Principal Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis gave the Presidential Address in which he praised the work and efforts of these young entrepreneurs in developing this mode technology in India, rather than relying on foreign countries for this technology. And our Director In-charge Rev. Father Ajith Menezes gave a short speech and wished the three young entrepreneurs good luck and hoped that their companies would be global leaders in 3D printing technology.

The moing session of the Workshop/ Technical Talk began with a talk by Mr. Sunil Patel, and he gave Introduction to Rapid Prototyping and 3D Printing Techniques and the different types of methods involved in 3D printing and stressed on its application and implications. He even elaborated on the different types of 3D printing machines and the time required for building a model with these machines.

The next talk was given by Mr. Khivraj Jangir, he spoke on the practical aspects of Rapid Prototyping and 3-D printing and explained its practical use to the students in their day to day studies and also while doing their project work. He also compared 3D printing with the traditional way of doing design and development of the project work and other engineering works.

Mr. Manish Amin of Global 3D labs Inc., Bangaluru, gave a technical talk and demonstrated the 3D printing machine to the audience by building a model in front of the students, and he spoke on the different types of 3D printers named “Pramaan” which his company produces, and how it has changed the way companies use these 3D printers to reduce the time and money involved in the product development.  He even elaborated the use of 3D printing in educational institutions which can help students lea faster, help students create interesting projects and make students understand the concepts better. He also gave the introduction and explained about “CHOCOBOT” which is India’s first Chocolate 3D printer which his company has developed, and explained how it has revolutionized food industry.

The afteoon session began with the talk and demonstration by Mr. Manish Amin on how to operate a 3D printer . He explained about the designing of a component using CAD software and then slicing the CAD file with the help of 3D printing software, and explained how to build a model using 3D printer and gave a live demonstration about it. He also stressed on the parameters to be considered while operating and building the any component using a 3D printer. The talk ended with a Question & Answer session.

After the talk, Mr. Noel Deepak Shiri, ISTE SJEC Chapter Chairman presented a memento to Mr. Manish Amin and team on behalf of the management, staff and students of SJEC.

The ISTE Department staff Coordinators were present for this workshop/ Technical talk. And Ms. Shilpa Suvaa, Student Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks and Mr. Ankith K.R and Mr. Joswin, Student Coordinators from Mechanical Department were the emcee for the program.
