The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Extensive Survey Camp for the Academic Year 2017-2018 from 16 to 21 January 2018 for V semester students at Perlampady, Puttur. The Survey camp was inaugurated on 16 January 2018. A group of 66 students was taken to the Survey Camp site along with Civil Engineering Faculty. During these six days, students were exposed to practical difficulties of surveying and leaed to solve them. The following projects were assigned to the students under the supervision of faculty.
· Detailed surveying of a new road for a length of 1.2 Km.
· Construction of New tank for storing the water and design of a canal.
· Increasing the bund height of an existing tank.
· Design of water supply and sanitation to the existing and future population for a village near Perlampady.
All students enjoyed the experience of surveying and leaed many aspects of surveying by practically conducting the projects through Total Station as per guidance given by the faculty members. Four batches of students had a work schedule from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, other four batches students had a work schedule from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm, and the free batch students were carrying out parallel sessions of AutoCAD related work. The students obtained extensive hands-on experience on the use of land surveying instruments. It helped the students to lea surveying practically with usage of the instruments with confidence, and it helped them to work as a team.
