The Department of Civil Engineering at SJEC inaugurated the activities of its students’ association –NIRMAN, on 20 th September 2017 at 3:00 pm in Bishop Aloysius Paul Hall. Dr Shivashankar, Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering - NITK was the Chief Guest of the program. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director-SJEC presided over the function. Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal-SJEC was the Guest of Honour. Dr Nalini Rebello, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Ms Ivy Savia Dantis, Coordinator of NIRMAN, Mohammed Zuhail - President of NIRMAN were also present on the dais.
Dr Nalini Rebello welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest. The students’ Association was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp. The oath was administered to the Office Bearers by the Chief Guest. President of NIRMAN presented the annual report of Association Activities for the year 2016-17 and proposed the plan of events for the current year. Meritorious students from each class were felicitated by the guests. Dr R Shivashankar in his speech encouraged the students to pursue higher education and keep in contact with the alma mater, faculty, and classmates. He also mentioned that even though the placement scenario may not be very positive to civil students but there is always scope for civil engineering. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza in his presidential address motivated the students to secure good marks. Ms Ivy Savia Dantis proposed the vote of thanks.
The inaugural was followed by cultural activities by the students.
