The Department of Civil Engineering at SJEC organized an industrial visit to Nirmithi Kendra on 31 st October 2017 for second year students. The faculty members Ms Ivy Savia Dantis, Mr Sachin U and Ms Pratibha accompanied 67 students. Nirmithi Kendra was established under the National Network of Building Centers in India. It is the centre for the cost effective technologies. The visit was aimed at making students to understand and visualize the various alteative building materials and alteative technologies. Director of Nirmithi Kendra Er Rajendra Kalbavi explained the various types of arches, filler slab, ferrocement structures etc. The employees of Nirmithi Kendra gave the live demo by constructing an arch. The visit helped the students to understand the alteative technologies, which reduce the cost of the structure and are ecofriendly.
