NSS: Planting Of Saplings at SJEC Campus

 

The activity of Planting of saplings, undertaken by NSS volunteers of St Joseph Engineering College Vamanjoor, was held on 7 th September 2018. It was a memorable evening as fun blended with a cause of protecting nature. The venue for planting the saplings was near girls hostel SJEC.

The event started at 4pm with a NSS prayer by Ms Ankitha and Ms Apeksha.    Following this was inspiring words about protecting nature by, Dr Rio D’ Souza, Principal SJEC. Rev Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director of SJEC also appreciated the initiative taken and encouraged to have more activities and camps by NSS. Assistant Director Rev Fr Rohith D’Costa was also present and appreciated the work.

Different kinds of plants like banana and mango were brought in prior. Many pits where dug to plant these saplings with the help of housekeeping staffs. The activity was inaugurated by the management by planting a sapling, adding manure and watering it. After the inauguration, a vote of thanks was given by Nidhishree B of 4 th year E&C. After the formal function, the NSS volunteers planted saplings, added manure and watered them. Students enjoyed the activity and understood the importance and happiness they get in planting saplings. The event ended at around 5.00 pm. At the end, refreshment was given for everyone present.

The master of ceremony for the evening was Ankitha Shetty of 4 th year E&C. The arrangements needed for the activity was done by the house keeping staff of SJEC. NSS Coordinator Rajesh K, President Chetan Ramesh of 4 th year Mechanical and the treasurer Dheeraj Hegde of 4 th year Civil took initiatives to coordinate the entire event.
