PRODIGI-ECE student association organized a two day workshop on "Research Paper/Report Writing, Plagiarism and Ethical Issues" on talk on 23 and 24 March, 2021 at Fr Fred Memorial Hall. The workshop was focused on giving insights on the aspects such as: how to write a project report, how to write a research paper, awareness on how to avoid plagiarism in writing report, ethical issues in research and documentation, Tools for writing project report, project presentations and research paper such as MS word, PowerPoint Presentation. Workshop also included hands-on session on LaTeX tool for report/paper writing.

First session of the day one, was on the topic " How to write a research paper and project report" which was conducted by Dr Rohan Pinto, Associate Professor, ECE dept. In this session, the resource person gave useful tips on how to plan and organize project report, what should be the content for different sections of the project report. How to write a research article in an effective manner so that it gets accepted by the conference/jouals.

Second session of the day one, was on the topic "Plagiarism and Ethical issues" which was conducted by Ms Jennifer C Saldanha, Assistant Professor , ECE Dept. The session was mainly focused on giving awareness to the students on "Plagiarism". In her talk she explained different ways to avoid plagiarism in the documentation. She also gave useful information on how to paraphrase the text and different types of citation styles to avoid plagiarism. The talk gave insights on ethical issues in research, wherein she mentioned about different types of research misconduct, role of ethical approval committee for bio medical research and conducted case studies for the students to identify unethical behaviours in research.

Third session of the day one, was on MS word, Power Point Presentation Tools for research documentation which was delivered by Mr Keith R Feandes, Assistant Professor, ECE Dept. In this session, the resource person demonstrated different options available in MS word which will be useful for students while writing the project report. He also demonstrated mendeley tool for arranging the references. The Day 1 ended with resource person demonstrating power point presentation tool for preparing the project presentations.

The first session of the day two, was on LaTeX tool for documentation which was conducted by Ms Dayakshini, HOD-ECE. The session stared with the brief introduction of the tool and how it is useful for research documentation.  The introduction was followed by hands on session wherein the resource person demonstrated different examples to introduce participants to the LaTeX tool and its usefulness in the documentation to write report and thesis.

The last session of the workshop was on TURNITIN software for plagiarism check, handled by Ms Shama B N, Assistant Professor, ECE Dept. She demonstrated the steps to be followed while using the software by staff and students. She also explained typical plagiarism report generated by TURNITIN software and how to analyze the report.

The workshop was organized and moderated by Ms Vijayalaxmi H M and Ms Jennifer C Saldanha, Co-ordinators, PRODIGI 2020-21.
