SJEC ECOVEX under CCG, in association with the Department of Civil Engineering & LLG, organized an awareness programme titled “The Hidden Hazards Trapping Women and the Planet” on 18 September 2026 at 3:30 pm at Fr Fred Hall. The programme aimed to create awareness about the hidden and interconnected impacts of unsustainable practices on women’s health, human well-being and the environment.
The programme was attended by 39 girl students, who actively participated in the session. Adv. Swasti Shetty and Ms. Kalpana Bhaskar served as the resource persons and shared valuable insights related to women's health, environmental sustainability and responsible choices.
The session focused on the often-overlooked environmental and health impacts associated with everyday practices and consumption patterns. Discussions highlighted the connection between menstrual health, disposable menstrual products, waste generation and environmental sustainability. The participants were introduced to the environmental impacts of disposable sanitary products, including the generation of long-lasting waste and their contribution to environmental concerns.
The resource persons also discussed the importance of considering reusable menstrual products as a more sustainable alternative. The CARE material presented during the programme highlighted how reusable menstrual products can contribute to zero-waste practices, climate action and women's empowerment. It also emphasized the role of students as ambassadors who can help create awareness and encourage positive changes within the campus community.
The programme provided an opportunity to discuss women's health, menstrual hygiene, sustainable choices and environmental responsibility. It aligns with SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production by promoting reusable menstrual products and reducing waste from disposable sanitary products.
