As part of the Independence Day Celebrations 2026, the Department of Physical Education, in association with the Sports Advisory Committee, organized the Elocution Competition – 2026 for all B.E. and PG students. The event was held on 13th August 2026 at Prerana Hall from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM. The theme of the competition was “Freedom with Responsibility: The Role of Technology and Ethics in New India.”
The event was coordinated by Mr. Chitharanjan M, Ms. Himani Kishan Raj, Sports Advisors – SJEC, and Ms. Vaneesha V. Rodrigues, Physical Education Director – SJEC. A total of 11 students registered and participated in the competition.
Competition Rules
The competition was conducted according to the following guidelines:
1. Languages: Participants could deliver their speeches in English, Kannada, or Hindi.
2. Speech Duration: The maximum time allotted to each participant was four minutes. A short bell was sounded at the end of the third minute to indicate that one minute remained, followed by a long bell at the completion of four minutes.
3. Judging Criteria: Participants were evaluated based on:
o Content
o Body Language
o Clarity of Words
o Time Management
4. Judges’ Decision: The decision of the judges was final and binding.
Event Highlights
The competition provided students with an engaging platform to express their perspectives on patriotism, freedom, responsibility, technology, and ethics in the context of today’s rapidly changing global environment. The participants delivered insightful and impactful speeches, highlighting their views on India’s progress and their vision for the nation’s future.
The event was compered by Ms. Himani Kishan Raj, Assistant Professor – EEE. The competition was judged by Dr. Pramila Rita D'Souza, HOD, Department of Chemistry; Ms. Olivia Sequeira, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics; and Mr. Joel Antony D'Mello, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The competition was highly competitive, making it challenging for the judges to select the winners.

· Second Place: Ms. Jia Menezes, IV Year CSE
· Third Place: Mr. Rakesh Rai M, II Year CSE
All participants received a participation certificate and a memento as a token of appreciation for their efforts, enthusiasm, and active participation.
Ms. Himani Kishan Raj delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the judges, participants, coordinators, and organizers for their valuable contributions. The event concluded successfully with the prize distribution ceremony, marking a meaningful and memorable celebration of Independence Day.
