Independence Day was celebrated enthusiastically at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru on 15 August 2024 in front of the College Basketball court.

Veteran Raghavendra Bhat Indian Air Force graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza, Director of SJEC, Rev. Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, Assistant Director of SJEC, Dr Rio D'Souza, Principal of SJEC and Dr Purushothama Chippar Vice Principal of SJEC were the Guests of Honour.  The dignitaries were escorted to the flag post by Cadet Darsh, Cadet Gagan, Leading Cadet Ramkishan and Leading Cadet Gaurav. Ms Priya Miranda Welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest Veteran Raghavendra Bhat Indian Air Force hoisted the flag The National Anthem was sung by Great pride by all.

Chief guest and dignitaries gave floral tributes, to India's most respected leaders—Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution. These great souls have left an unfading mark on our country's history and continue to inspire us with their vision of justice, equality, and non-violence.

Cadet Under Officer Cadet Warrant Officer Vedika K N of SJEC Air Wing requested the Chief Guest to inspect the SJEC NCC Troops. Then the Dignitaries received the Guard of Honor by the SJEC Navy wing led by Cadet Captain Aditya CS and SJEC Air Wing Cadet led by Cadet Jayaram P D.

While remembering the contributions of all freedom fighters, the Chief Guest inspired the audience with his words of wisdom. He mentioned the importance of August 15 and why Independence Day is celebrated on that day. He shared his experience in the Air Force and urged the young students to join the army to serve the nation. 

The whole atmosphere was filled with a sense of patriotism by a beautiful patriotic song sung by the team Crescendo.

Ms Deon Rego MC of the program thanked everyone.

The program imbibed the spirit of patriotism among the people. Sweets were distributed to all at the end of the program.
