The Department of Civil Engineering has taken a step forward for the "Lecture Series on Civil Engineering 2023” in association with Research and Development Group. The lectures aimed at enhancing the knowledge of the students and faculties on topics of emerging areas and topics of current interest in Civil Engineering, such as Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering, Forensic Civil Engineering, the Application of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Leaing tools in Civil Engineering, and so on. The special lectures will be delivered by leading experts in the field from India and Abroad.  As a beginning of this lecture series, the first technical talk on 'Introduction to earthquake Engineering' was organized for all the students and faculties of SJEC on 23rd February 2023 at 02.00 pm in Prerana Hall, Ground floor, AB III Block. The talk was delivered by Dr. Shreyasvi Chandrasekhar, Seismic Hazard Scientist, Global Earthquake Model, Pavia, Italy.

In the present scenario, unplanned development in the mode world increases the potential impact of an earthquake. Proper development and evacuation preparedness are crucial for reducing the impact of an earthquake. By quoting the importance of the above issues, the talk covered topics including, recent major worldwide earthquake details, earthquakes and impacts, and emergency evacuation preparedness for seismic hazards. The technical talk was organized by Dr. Yajneshwaran B, HOD-CE, and Dr. Sreya M V, Coordinator of Lecture series, Dept. of Civil Engineering. Around 70 students and many faculties attended the talk from various streams of engineering. This program provided a forum for students and faculties to interact with the speaker regarding the latest developments and experiences in mitigating the effects of earthquake-related hazards. It was an informative session and a new step taken by the department for the betterment of the students.
