On Monday, 5th April 2021 the Inauguration of Microbiology Research Laboratory was organized by Civil Engineering Department SJEC   Mangaluru at 9:15 a.m. the guests arrived and they were escorted by Dr Yajneshwaran B, Head of Department and Dr Bhaskar S, Convenor of the program and Associate Professor, Civil Engineering Department.  

  

The inauguration of the Microbiology Lab was carried out along with Principal Dr Rio  D'Souza, Director Rev Fr Wilfred  Prakash,  Assistant  Directors  Fr  Rohit  D'Costa and  Rev  Fr  Alwyn  Richard  D'Souza.  The chief guests of the program Prof Sreenivasa Y  M  and  Prof  Babu  Narayan  K  dynamically participated in the event and also added life to the program with their sharing their thoughts.  

 

After the inauguration of the Microbiology research Laboratory formal function was conducted at Prerana hall, SJEC Mangaluru, Students of third and final year, Civil Engineering Department was present during the event.  Video of Microbiology Lab was displayed.  

  

HOD of Civil Engineering Department Dr Yajneshwaran B welcomed the dignitaries to the program. Dr Bhaskar the Associate Professor introduced the guest and also displayed Bioluminescent microbes to the gathering. Students who had worked in the microbiology lab were also honoured by the dignitaries.  

  

Chief Guest addressed the gathering by the immense knowledge of microbiology and enlightened the young minds.  Prof Babu Narayan  K  S  spoke about  Microbes impending in the Civil  Engineering field and also gave insights on interdisciplinary works at the micro-organism level that can account for various branches of  Civil  Engineering.  

  

Prof  Sreenivas appreciated the initiative taken by the  Civil  Engineering department in the field of Microbiology.  He was mesmerized by the efforts made by the entire team especially Dr Bhaskar S in making the vision into reality.  

  

The principal and Director of SJEC Mangalore also appreciated the work and wished all the success for the microbiology research.  Dr Bhaskar proposed a vote thanks for the gathering.  and he rendered the special thanks to the Master of  Ceremony Ms Reena James Rodrigues,  Assistant  Professor  Civil  Engineering  Department.  Refreshments were served at the end of the program.  

  

 Technical talk at (11:20am.  -  12:20pm.)  

  

  After the completion of the formal program, Prof Sreenivas  Y  M  shared his immense knowledge with the gathering.  He spoke about applications of microbes in various branches of  Civil  Engineering.  In this session, the resource person focused on how microorganisms can heal the concrete cracks,  how environmental pollution can be controlled by microorganisms,  cloud seeding with microbes,  bioluminescent effect etc.    

 

Technical talk at (12:20  p.m.  -  1:20  pm)  

The second session was conducted by Prof K S Babunarayan.  He started his talk by saying "Imitation to Limitation" which means that Civil Engineers are dealing with environmental limitations and try to imitate them.  Speaker said many facts about how the things around us, which may look and notice is accounting in Civil Engineering aspects.
