IEEE Hackathon “Code N Core – Innovate for Impact,” organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SJEC, in association with the IEEE SJEC Student Branch and IEEE SJEC GRSS Student Chapter, with the support of the IEEE Mangalore Subsection and IEEE Bangalore Section.
The theme “Innovate for Impact” truly captures the essence of this event, where creativity converges with sustainability to inspire meaningful solutions. This hackathon was envisioned as an interdisciplinary platform encouraging students to design innovative, sustainable, and technology-driven solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The event was open to all SJEC students, promoting enthusiastic participation across various disciplines. Students worked on diverse themes such as Geoscience for Sustainable Living, Sustainable Energy & Green Innovations, Water Conservation & Waste Management Systems, Smart Living & Home Automation, and Tech for All—each aimed at addressing real-world challenges with a focus on societal and environmental impact. Teams consisting of 4 members were formed, fostering collaboration and teamwork. The Idea Phase was conducted from 25th November to 5th December 2025, during which 38 teams submitted their innovative problem statements and proposed solutions. Following a rigorous evaluation process, the shortlisted teams were announced on 22nd December 2025 based on criteria such as innovation, feasibility, relevance, and impact, and 25 teams progressed to the Execution Phase. An online orientation was held on 26th December 2025 to brief the teams on the rules, expectations, and roadmap ahead.
A progress review was conducted online on 20th February 2026, providing valuable feedback to the participants, followed by an offline evaluation on 3rd March 2026 where teams showcased their developments. Final Evaluation was conducted on 24th March 2026. The evaluation focused on key aspects such as innovation, technical implementation, relevance to the chosen theme, feasibility, presentation, and overall impact of the solution.
The hackathon also offered motivating incentives, including a seed fund of Rs 1000/- for all the selected ideas and a total prize pool of Rs 24,000, encouraging students to push the boundaries of innovation.
