The Business Plan Workshop, organized by the MBA Department of St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangalore, as part of INGENIOUS 2026, was held on 4 May 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Spoorthi Hall, AB III. The session was led by CA Nerissa C. Noronha, a Chartered Accountant and the Proprietor of Nerissa Noronha & Co., with the objective of providing students practical insights into developing effective business plans. The workshop was highly interactive and emphasized real-world applications of entrepreneurship concepts, enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of business planning.

The speaker focused on the practical aspects of developing a business plan, beginning with market analysis, where she emphasized identifying a problem and offering a solution based on market demand, illustrated through the example of a DIY flower gift business. She explained the importance of conducting a feasibility study by evaluating factors such as demand, supply, market gap, technical knowledge, financial viability, and social impact. The concept of disruptive innovation was highlighted using the example of Netflix replacing Blockbuster, demonstrating how new ideas can transform industries. She also discussed operational and structural design with Zara’s vertical integration model as an example. Further, the session covered the importance of a financial roadmap, including revenue planning and startup costs, along with strategies for customer retention. Analytical tools like sensitivity analysis and break-even analysis were introduced to aid decision-making. The speaker stressed the need for having a pivot plan to adapt to changes and encouraged students to work with strict deadlines, develop products in phases, maintain buffer time, and set SMART goals.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, making the workshop highly informative and beneficial for understanding real-world business planning. The workshop ended on an informative note, equipping participants with essential skills and insights into business planning and entrepreneurship. The workshop was highly informative and practical, helping students understand the key components of a successful business plan and encouraging entrepreneurial thinking. The workshop was managed by Faculty Coordinator Ms Acharya Chitralekha J, Assistant Professor, MBA and the student coordinators Velika Furtado, Palvi Fernandes, Smruthi Shetty, Deonna Ashel Miranda, Delisha Alvita Dsouza and Jordan Fernandes, students of I year MBA.
