The Department of Business Administration at St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, in association with its student forums—Finnovate, MarketSense, and EmpowerNet, and powered by Genesis—successfully conducted its flagship debate competition, Debateus Maximus 2025: The Battle of Brains, on 5th June 2025 at 3:00 PM in Spoorthi Hall, AB III Block. The event aimed to develop and showcase the critical thinking, logical reasoning, and public speaking skills of MBA students through an engaging and intellectually challenging format. Thecompetition was designed to cultivate awareness of current affairs, foster teamwork, and encourage students to articulate and defend their viewpoints on thought-provoking business and societal topics. The tagline "The Battle of Brains" was brought to life as participants demonstrated clarity, confidence, and compelling arguments throughout the event.
The journey began with the preliminary round held on 4th June 2025, which witnessed participation from an impressive 58 teams comprising first-year MBA students. This initial round tested participants on their presence of mind, articulation, and content knowledge. The judging panel for the prelims included Dr Babitha Rohith-Associate Professor, Ms Acharya Chitralekha, Mr Roopesh and Mr Ananth Alias Rohith Bhat P Assistant Professors of the Department of Business Administration. After rigorous evaluation, 12 top-performing teams were shortlisted for the semi-final round. These semi-finalists returned on 5th June for the next round of debate, where they continued to showcase their debating prowess. Following the semi-finals, the top 2 teams advanced to the much-anticipated grand finale. The semifinal and final round were adjudicated by Dr Anjali Ganesh-Professor and Dr Shakila B Associate Professor of the department, who brought their rich academic and professional experience to the evaluation process.
In the final face-off, it was Mr Lester Garwin Cutinha and Mr Aldrien Voen Pais of First Year MBA A Batch who emerged as the winners of Debateus Maximus 2025, while Mr Ashish and Mr Dean Joshua Rodrigues, also from First Year MBA A Batch, were declared the runners-up. All finalists shall receive certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance and exemplary communication skills. The event was coordinated with great dedication and precision by forum faculty coordinators Mr Nelson M. Fernandes, Mr Thilak Gowda, Mr Cherian Xavier, and Ms Prajwala P. Rodrigues Assistant Professors of the department under the guidance and encouragement from Dr Prakash Pinto, Professor and Dean – MBA, Debateus Maximus 2025 not only showcased the oratorical talents of the students but also reinforced the department’s commitment to providing platforms that nurture communication skills, confidence, and critical and analytical thinking among budding management professionals.
