An Awareness Program on "Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)" was organised by the Office of the Dean - R&D and Industry & Innovation Group (IIG) in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the staff and students of SJEC in Kalam Auditorium at 12:00 Noon on 28 April 2022.

The awareness program was conducted to mark the celebration of World IP Day and Mr. Ramashish Paul, Examiner of Patents and Design, Intellectual Property Office (IPO), Chennai, delivered the presentation.  The speaker has highlighted the importance of IPR in the current day scenario.  The different types of Intellectual Property such as Patents, Designs, Copyrights, Trademarks, Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Layout - Designs, Geographical Indications, Trade Secrets were elaborated with examples by the resource person. The procedure for the patent registration was also explained by the speaker. The session held was very interactive with the quizzes by the speaker and prizes for the students for giving the right answer.

During the session awareness was also given on the KAPILA (Kalam Program for IP Literacy and Awareness) scheme which provides financial assistance to the institutions that are part of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for filing patent. Students were advised to submit their entries by last date 18 May 2022.

About 420 students and 18 faculty from MBA, MCA, E&C, CSE, E&E, Civil and Mechanical Engineering have attended the awareness session.  Dr Sudheer M and Mr Yathish Kumar have anchored the Program.
