Open Day Program for The Bharath Academy School

SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab, in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, successfully organized an Open Day Program for the students of The Bharath Academy School on 29th June 2026 at the SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab. The program aimed to inspire young school students by providing them with hands-on exposure to engineering, innovation, and emerging technologies. A total of 37 students from Classes IX and X, accompanied by three teachers, participated in the program.

The program commenced with a brief inaugural session and introduction to SJEC, AICTE IDEA Lab, highlighting the importance of innovation, creativity, design thinking, and experiential learning. Students were introduced to the facilities available in the IDEA Lab and the opportunities available in engineering education.

The first technical session featured a demonstration of digital manufacturing tools, including the 3D Printer, Laser Cutting Machine, and CNC Wood Router. The session was conducted by the Tech Gurus of SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab – Mr. Deekshith, Mr. Harshith, and Ms. Chaithra. Students observed the complete workflow from computer-aided design to prototype fabrication and learned about the applications of additive manufacturing and digital fabrication in product development and modern engineering.

After the tea break, an interactive IoT and Basic Electronics Hands-on Session was conducted by Ms. Abhaya, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. Students gained practical exposure to the fundamentals of electronics by assembling simple circuits using breadboards, LED bulbs, resistors, and sensors. The hands-on activities generated enthusiastic participation and enabled students to understand the basics of electronic circuit design through experiential learning.

The participants also visited the SAE Technical Club and Automation and Robotics Club, where they interacted with student members and explored innovative projects developed by SJEC students. During the afternoon session, a guided tour of the engineering laboratories was organized under the coordination of Mr. Rajesh Belchada, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering. The students visited the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop, Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, Material Testing Laboratory, along with the Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering laboratories. Faculty members and laboratory instructors explained the working principles    of major equipment, ongoing student projects, and the practical applications of engineering concepts.

The students actively participated throughout the program, displayed keen interest during the demonstrations and hands-on activities, and interacted with faculty members by asking insightful questions. The program successfully enhanced their awareness of engineering education, innovation, and technology while motivating them to explore STEM-related careers.

The Open Day was coordinated by Dr. Vijay V S, Coordinator, SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab, along with Mr. Rajesh Belchada and Ms. Abhaya, under the guidance of Dr. Shreeranga Bhat, Dean (R&D). The event concluded successfully with highly positive feedback from the students and teachers of The Bharath Academy, making it a meaningful outreach initiative that strengthened the connection between school education and engineering innovation through hands-on learning.
