In observance of World Environment Day 2026, SJEC Ecovex, in association with the Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Chemistry, and the Culture and Community Group (CCG), organized a series of awareness initiatives aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable living among students and staff. The activities focused on encouraging conscious consumption, resource conservation, and environmentally responsible practices within the campus community.

As part of the celebrations, an environmental awareness video was developed and circulated among students and staff. The video highlighted the importance of sustainable practices, environmental stewardship, and the role of individuals in protecting natural resources. Through impactful visuals and informative content, the campaign encouraged viewers to adopt environmentally conscious habits in their daily lives.

A poster awareness campaign was also conducted under the theme “Think Before You Print.” Posters were circulated across various departments to promote responsible paper usage and reduce unnecessary printing. The campaign emphasized the importance of conserving resources, minimizing waste generation, and adopting sustainable alternatives in academic and administrative activities.

To further enhance awareness, an online webinar titled “Convenience and Consumerism in the Human World” was organized on 5 June 2026. The session was delivered by Sqn Ldr Neville Tania D’Costa (Retd.), Founder of Anahata. The webinar explored the environmental implications of excessive consumerism, the culture of convenience in modern society, and the urgent need to embrace sustainable lifestyles. Participants gained valuable insights into how everyday choices impact the environment and learned practical approaches to responsible consumption.

The webinar witnessed the participation of around 40 students and staff members, who actively engaged in the discussion and reflected on the importance of making environmentally responsible decisions in their personal and professional lives.

Through these initiatives, SJEC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering environmental awareness and sustainability. The activities provided an effective platform to educate, engage, and inspire the campus community to contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future.
