MATLAB for Engineers: Statistical Modeling to Image Processing

The Department of Intelligent Computing and Business Systems (ICBS), in association with NEXUS, the Student Association Club, organized a workshop session on MATLAB for Engineers: Statistical Modeling to Image Processing for the 5th semester CSBS students on 01-09-2025 from 01:30 pm to 03:00 pm. Dr. Shabina Bhaskar, Associate Professor, Dept. of ICBS, was the resource person for the program.

The objective of this workshop was to provide students with hands-on experience in statistical data analysis, data visualization, and basic image processing using MATLAB. The main aim of the session was to make the students aware of the importance of MATLAB in research and academics.

The session began with an introduction to the MATLAB interface, including the different packages and basic facilities available in it. The basics covered included variables, cell arrays, control structures, and different types of plots. The second part focused on machine learning algorithms and their implementation in MATLAB. The algorithms covered were Linear Regression and SVM, which were used to illustrate regression and classification tasks.

The students interacted with Dr. Shabina, asked several questions regarding program execution, and were able to follow the concepts she explained. At the end of the session, Dr. Harivinod N., Head of the Department of ICBS, honored Dr. Shabina Bhaskar with an appreciation letter and memento. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Saleena T. S., Assistant Professor, ICBS Department, who was also the faculty coordinator for the event. Ms. Shruti Patil, Assistant Professor, ICBS Department, also attended the session.
