Cancer Awareness Session

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in collaboration with the Wellness and Sports Group, organised a Cancer Awareness Session on December 1, 2025, at 11:15 AM. The resource person for the session is by Ms. Jyoti Patil Shah, the Chief Executive Officer of V Care Foundation, an organisation known for its significant contributions toward cancer care, patient support, and public awareness. With her extensive experience in the field, Ms Jyoti delivered an insightful and impactful session aimed at increasing awareness about cancer.

The session focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of cancer by addressing several key areas. Ms Jyoti began by explaining what cancer is, followed by a detailed overview of its early warning signs and the major risk factors associated with the disease. She highlighted how genetics, environmental influences, and lifestyle choices contribute to cancer development. The speaker also discussed the most common types of cancer prevalent in India and globally, helping the audience recognise the importance of staying informed and vigilant.

A major emphasis of the session was on early detection, which plays a crucial role in improving treatment outcomes. Ms. Jyoti explained various screening methods, their relevance, and when individuals should consider undergoing routine tests. She particularly stressed the importance of timely medical consultation, noting that hesitation or delay often leads to diagnosis at advanced stages.

In addition to medical aspects, Ms Jyoti highlighted the importance of healthy lifestyle practices in reducing cancer risk. She encouraged participants to adopt balanced nutrition, maintain regular physical activity, and avoid harmful habits such as tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption. These preventive measures, she noted, not only lower cancer risk but also contribute to overall well-being.

The session was extremely informative, thought-provoking, and relevant to current health challenges. The session was coordinated by Ms Priya Seema Miranda, Ms K Aarya Shri, Assistant Professors, Department of ECE and Mr Abhilash R V, Assistant Professor, Department of EEE.
