The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in association with the IEEE SJEC Student Chapter and the IEEE GRSS Branch, organized a workshop on Self-Defence for Women Students on 26 November 2025 at the Kalam Auditorium. The session aimed to empower students with essential self-defence skills and awareness on personal safety. The workshop was coordinated by Ms Padmini Bhat, Ms Madhavi Gatty and Ms Simi Thomas- Assistant Professors, Department of ECE.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Karthik Kateel, a renowned self-defence trainer, who served as the resource person for the event. The session began with Ms. Padmini Bhat introducing the resource person to the audience, followed by a warm welcome and bouquet presentation by Dr. Dayakshini, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Mr. Karthik Kateel delivered an engaging and impactful workshop, demonstrating practical self-defence techniques and sharing valuable insights on personal safety. His interactive approach ensured active participation from students. In addition to physical self-defence, he also addressed the topic of cybercrime, educating students on various online threats and ways to protect themselves in digital spaces. The workshop was well received by the students, who appreciated the informative and inspiring nature of the session. Ms. Gouthami, a second-year ECE student, shared her positive feedback, highlighting the usefulness and relevance of the training.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Madhavi Gatty, acknowledging the efforts of the resource person, organizers, and participants for making the workshop a success. Overall, the session proved to be highly beneficial, equipping students with essential knowledge and skills to ensure their safety both physically and digitally.
