The NSS Special Camp of St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru was held from 19 th January to 25 th January 2019 in the premises of St Sebastian Higher Primary School, Hosabettu, Moodbidri. The Inauguration ceremony was held on 19 th January 2019. The camp was inaugurated by Mrs Rita Cutinha, Member of Taluk Panchayath and President of the Standing committee, Mangaluru Taluk Panchayath, by lighting the lamp. She assured wholehearted co-operation for the success of the camp . Rev Fr. Santosh Rodrigues, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Hosabettu, Moodbidri, graced the occasion. The program was presided by Rev Fr Rohith D’costa, Assistant director, St. Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru. Mrs Precilla Pinto, Headmistress, St Sebastian Higher Primary School, Hosabettu, Mr Basil Colaco, Vice President, Holy Cross Church Committee, Hosabettu, Mr Manohar Cuntinha, Secretary, Holy Cross Church Committee, Hosabettu, Sr. Laveena, Superior, BSDP Sisters Congregation, Dr Sudheer M, Principal in charge, St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru were the guests of honor. There were a total of 52 participants along with staff members. The programme began with invoking god’s blessings. Mr Rajesh K, NSS programme officer welcomed the gathering. Rev Fr Santosh Rodrigues in his speech stressed about the importance of social service and congratulated the students for attending the camp. Rev Fr. Rohith D’costa, in his speech motivated the students to actively participate in the camp. Dr Sudheer M, Principal in charge-SJEC, briefed the students about the role of NSS in nation building and inspired the students to actively involve themselves in social service. Ms Nidhishree proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Nandini compered the programme.
Shramadhan was conducted during the special camp. Volunteers had cleaned the bushes on either side of the main road, near to the school entrance. They also cleaned the premises of the church. As part of the Shramadhan activity, the soil was dug for rain water harvesting and recharge pits were created in the church premises. During the Special camp, yoga sessions were held for half an hour. Flag hoisting ceremony was organized every day in the moing. In the afteoon there were lecture series arranged for the students. Snake Kiran shared his knowledge about snakes and enlightened the students about the importance of snakes. Mr Ronald D’souza, Aquatic Bio systems Mangaluru shared his experience about fisheries. Students also had a visit to few of the famous places in Karkala, namely St Lawrence Church, Attur, Koti Chennaya theme park and Gomateshwara temple Karkala. Students also visited Hosabettu village and interacted with the villagers. At the end of each day, games and cultural programs were conducted by the students. All the participants of the camp came forward to showcase their talents. Valedictory programme was held on 24 th January 2019. Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal SJEC appreciated the students for being part of the special camp and suggested to come up with similar programmes in the future. Rev Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director SJEC appreciated the students for attending the camp even though they had holidays. Rev Fr. Santosh Rodrigues, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Hosabettu, Moodbidri appreciated the students for their discipline and dedication during the special camp. Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Chief of R&D SJEC was the guest of honor. Mr Ananth Kamath welcomed the gathering. Mr Rajesh K proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Nandini compered the programme.
