The Department of Civil Engineering at SJEC organized an Industrial Visit to M.M Construction, Mangaluru on 24 th October, 2017 for V Semester students. Three faculty members Ms Bhavya, Mr Chitharanjan M, and Mr Vijay H accompanied a group of 64 students. M.M Construction, Mangaluru is a construction company and the visit aimed at making students understand the reinforcement detailing and construction work. The visit helped the students in enhancing their knowledge pertaining to construction drawings, shuttering/centering work, formwork, placing of steel reinforcement and detailing of reinforcement on site as per design. The students observed positive & negative reinforcement in different components of structure, development length & standard hook required for placing the reinforcement. The provision of cover to reinforcement to avoid corrosion according to IS codes were noticed. Furthermore, it made the students to understand the importance of safety required in construction sites to avoid accidents.
