Three-Day IoT Workshop

The SJEC-AICTE IDEA lab in collaboration with Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at St Joseph Engineering College organized a Three-Day Workshop on Internet of Things (IoT) for MCA students of St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, from 11th to 13th August 2025. On Day 1 (11/08/2025, Monday), sessions were led by Mr. Prasad S. M, Assistant Professor, Dept of EC and Mr. Rajesh Belchada. Assistant Professor, Dept of ME. Participants were introduced to fundamentals of IoT, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and NodeMCU platforms, followed by hands-on practice in connecting ultrasonic sensors for object detection and OLED displays to Arduino for displaying health parameters. The first day successfully built a strong foundation in IoT hardware and interfacing techniques.

On Day 2 (12/08/2025, Tuesday), the sessions were conducted by Ms. Abhaya D. K,  Assistant Professor, Dept of CS and Ms. Jane Maria Wilma Lasrado, Assistant Professor, Dept of EC. Students learned about Node-MCU (ESP32) pin configuration, interfacing humidity and temperature sensors, and displaying sensor outputs. The afternoon session introduced participants to the development of static web pages, enabling them to integrate hardware with basic front-end applications. These activities provided students with exposure to real-time data monitoring and the fundamentals of IoT-based application development.

On Day 3 (13/08/2024, Wednesday), resource persons Dr. Binu K. G, Professor, Dept of ME, Dr. Nishitha J. Dsouza, Assistant Professor, Dept of Civil and Ms. Madhavi Gatty Assistant Professor, Dept of EC delivered advanced sessions which included interfacing sensors with Raspberry Pi, combining ultrasonic sensors with prior tasks for integrated IoT projects, and introducing cloud-based IoT applications. Participants appreciated the real-world perspective offered by the experts, which helped them connect classroom learning with industry practices. The three-day workshop successfully equipped students with IoT knowledge and practical skills, strengthening their ability to design innovative solutions. Total 79 students actively participated in the workshop including 4 faculty members of MCA department of St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru
