FDP on Personal finance and investments

On 14-09-2024, Faculty Development Programme on ‘Personal finance and investments’ was conducted by Department of Business Administration in association with Library and Learning Group (LLG) at St. Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor in Spoorthi hall aimed at educating faculties about financial literacy, budgeting, and investment strategies. The session was led by Mr. Yvonil R D’Souza, a recognized expert in personal finance with extensive experience in advising individuals on effective money management. The objective of the talk was to increase awareness of the importance of personal finance and inspire proactive financial planning among faculties.

The speaker began with an overview of personal finance, emphasizing its significance in achieving financial independence. The necessity of having an emergency fund was highlighted. Strategies for saving and managing unexpected costs were also discussed. An introduction to various investment vehicles, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and real estate. The speaker emphasized the concept of compound interest and the benefits of starting to invest early. The speaker discussed the significance of diversification, index funds, retirement accounts and ETF’s. The talk concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing faculties to ask specific questions regarding their financial situations and investment concerns.

The FDP on personal finance and investments was an enlightening and empowering experience for faculties. Mr. Yvonil R D’Souza effectively conveyed the importance of financial literacy and provided practical advice that faculties can apply to their lives. The session fostered a proactive approach to managing finances, encouraging faculties to take charge of their financial futures
